Day 1. Arrival in Ulaanbaatar and hotel transfer. Afternoon sightseeing as time permits. Visit Sukhbaatar Square, the heart of the capital and Gandan monastery, the largest functioning Buddhist center of Mongolia. Dinner and overnight will be at the hotel. Day 2. Fly to the Olgii town, a capital of the only Muslim province Bayan-Olgii located in the far western of the country. The flight takes about 4 hours including stopover at Toson-Tsengel for refueling. Upon arrival in Olgii, we'll meet with our local staff and drive to countryside. Visit the Kazakh families on their summer camp, which have its own specific traditions. Overnight in tents. Day 3. Join the eagle hunters either by jeep, on foot or horseback. The eagles are kept near the Kazakh gers in the summer and then taken out to catch small animals with the first snowfall in November and December. Those eagles are caught and trained at their young age and after about 7 years they are released back into the wild. Day 4-6. Eagle training and hunting with locals. Volunteers may participate in. No doubt you will be invited to famous Kazakh table. Day 7. After breakfast we drive back to Olgii town. Visit Muslim mosque called Mesht. Fly back to Ulaanbaatar. Upon arrival in UB, you will be taken to your hotel for rest. Do shopping including famous Gobi cashmere shop where original cashmere gifts and garments are found. |
